So that your room looks nice and has a lovely tropical scent we give you fresh cut flowers daily. Some people are allergic to pollen so if you are one of them, let us know and we won’t give you any.
Kayaks
Complimentary kayaks are available for guests to use. These are a fun way to explore the wonders of the lagoon but must not be taken too close to the breakers or over the reef. As with any water sport, caution and common sense must prevail as the sea can be dangerous with strong wind and currents some times.
Complimentary snorkelling gear
There is an abundance of tropical fish in our lagoon and the best way to see them is to go snorkelling. We provide complimentary snorkels, masks and fins for you to use.
Sun loungers
A great way to lie in the sun, read a book while getting that great tan you’ve been dreaming of at the same time.
Pool loungers
This is the ultimate way to soak up some sun. It’s a floating chair that you sit on in the pool and feel the cool water lapping your body while you read a book or just close your eyes and think how lucky you are to be here.
Hammocks
When you’ve had enough sun for the day and it’s time for a snooze in the shade, one of our tree strung hammocks is exactly what you will need. Or simply lay back and watch the waves roll across the lagoon and lap the shore.
Pool side BBQ
Under the palms beside the pool you’ll find our guest BBQ area. This is an ideal place to meet other guests while grilling a rib eye steak or freshly caught tuna for dinner or lunch. When done you can either sit at the BBQ table under the umbrella for a beachside BBQ experience or just take your plate back to the privacy of your room.
Reef Shoes
Exploring the reef at low tide is a great way to spend a few hours. It is recommended you wear shoes in the event you stand on something sharp. We provide complimentary reef shoes.
Hair dryer
After a day in the sun and water you might be in need of a hair dryer before going out for the evening. There is one in the room.
Tea and coffee provisions and facilities
We know you can’t go without your cup of coffee or tea first thing in the morning so we provide a coffee plunger, coffee, tea & sugar provisions to get you started for the day.

You might be on holiday on a remote south pacific island but the reality is you still need to stay in touch with family, friends or business back home in the real world. Wifi is available in all rooms and anywhere on the property including the beachfront and pool area. Unfortunately as the island only has expensive and limited satellite internet it’s not free. Data vouchers can be purchased at reception.
In-room large laptop capable safe
For your electronic devices and other valuables there are large laptop capable safes in all our rooms.
Other onsite services
Laundry
There are two laundries within two kilometres of the property offering same day service. Drop off in the morning – pick up same afternoon.
Car & Bike hire
The main coast road of Rarotonga is just 31 kilometres in circumference. While we have a good bus service it mostly keeps to the main road and you waste valuable holiday time waiting for and sitting on a bus with others. There is probably another 30 – 40 kilometres of inner and back roads the bus misses out. So if you want to explore the whole island and be independent the best way is to rent a car or scooter. This is especially important at night as you will want to go to and from restaurants at your leisure. We recommend Island Car & Bike Hire and can arrange hire for you when you get here.
Air-conditioned luxury mini coach airport transfers
When you book accommodation we recommend also booking our Sunhaven transfers. Our driver will then meet you on arrival with a big smile then take you directly to your room. This smooth tracks your arrival and avoids any delays which you don’t need after a long flight. The same applies when you leave as the last thing you want is to be left stranded outside during the dead of night waiting for a pick up that doesn’t come. It would just spoil your holiday if you missed your plane.
Offsite Service Sunhaven staff can assit with planning for
Circle island tours
There are a number of tour operators on the island – Tipani Tours – Cook Islands Tours – Tiki Tours to name just three. If a bus tour of the island is your thing then this is the way to go. Tiki Tours operate electric three wheel Tuk-Tuks. We can book tours for you when you are here.
Windsurfing
Wind surfing is very popular with locals but tourists can join in the fun too. Ariki Adventures in Muri cater for everyone. If you’ve never done it before they will teach you with various courses available or simply hire you the gear if you are already experienced. We can book this for you when you are here.
Golf
If you are a golfer then a round of the Rarotonga golf course is a must do. It’s only 9 holes so do two laps if you have energy after the first. The course is quite unique with a few radio transmitter pylons to avoid in the middle of the fairway to make it more interesting. No need to bring your own clubs unless you prefer to as the club hires them. Note: Golf is not allowed on Sundays.
Cook Islands cultural tours
Learn all about Cook Islands culture and traditions. Highland Paradise and Te Vara Nui offer interactive cultural village tours that demonstrate how their ancestors lived. Pa’s Mountain Hike offer different options from gentle nature walks to cross island treks. Pa, a living legend in his 70’s regarded as a Cook Islands treasure, will not only guide you but will point out traditional herbal and medicinal plants used for centuries along the way. We can book this for you while you are here.
Shopping at the local markets
The big market day is on Saturday morning at the Punanga Nui Market in town. Just about everyone goes there for fresh fruit and veggies, fresh caught fish, arts and crafts, all sorts of cooked foods and much much more. Enjoy island music, drumming and song. You can even get a Polynesian tattoo if want one.

Ocean Cruises
Rarotonga is surrounded by water so a day out on the deep blue sea would seem appropriate for a tropical island holiday. These vary from public groups to private charters, high or slow speed, day time or sunset, game fishing and the list goes on. My pick would be Blue Water Tours on their 50ft Catamaran. All tours are weather permitting. We can book these for you during your stay.
Surfing
Rarotonga is not a great surfing destination. While there are plenty of good size waves to be seen all around the island, places to surf are limited as mostly the waves break onto the reef. But there are a few surf able spots where the locals get out and ride when they can.
Deep water fishing
If you’re into deep water game fishing then Rarotonga is the place to be. A great day out on the briny and catch your dinner at the same time. There are many game fishing operators who offer public group fishing trips and private charters. You won’t get to keep your catch but everyone on the boat goes home with a couple of meals for the BBQ. And that’s a good thing as we wouldn’t want you coming back to your room with a 150kg marlin asking “what do I do with this?!” All tours are weather permitting. We can book these for you during your stay.

Island Nights
An Island Night is a must do when holidaying in Rarotonga. The best two are Highland Paradise, set on a marae on the side of Mt. Raemaru and Te Vara Nui, set over water in Muri. You will not only be entertained but you will learn a bunch about Cook Islands culture, traditions, legends and more. We can book this for you during your stay. You will not be disappointed.
